South Korea Tightens Conditions For Residence Permit Renewal For Cameroonians

Business in Cameroon – South Korea has tightened conditions for Cameroonians living on the territory to renew their residence permit.

This led the Cameroonian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, with jurisdiction in South Korea, to send a consular officer to Seoul from November 1 to 3.

“The mission was decided following complaints from compatriots residing in Korea about issues with renewing their passports, many of which expired several months ago,” said Cameroon’s ministry of foreign affairs (Minrex) in charge of diplomacy.

“This situation was confirmed by our Honorary Consulate in Seoul, which then estimated that about 50 compatriots were in an urgent need to renew their passports following a modification of the procedures relating to the extension of the residence permit in this country” the minister added.

Minrex explains that, while in the past the passes issued by the Consulate allowed Cameroonians to renew their residence permits despite the expiry of their passports, in recent months the possession of a valid passport has become a requirement.

A total of 55 passport application files that more or less met requirements were accepted by the consular mission to Seoul.
